Expedite metro work, Union minister tells BMRCL

Promises piped gas to 1.32 lakh households in two years

Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation Vijay Goel, on Thursday, directed the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to expedite the process of land acquisition and resolve technical issues to complete the project on time.

Reviewing metro projects in the city, he said, “The metro project would help in reducing vehicle density on the roads and provide a green environment in Bengaluru. Timely execution of central projects is critical for development of the State, as it provide employment and income. Therefore, it is imperative that all necessary action be taken by the State government.”

The BMRCL has made the entire Phase I operational. Extension of metro project is in progress. Under Phase II, the BMRCL is laying a 72-kilometre network of metro lines at an estimated cost of ₹26,405 crore. Phase II is expected to be complete in 2021.

In two years 1.32 lakh households to get PNG

The minister said that 1.32 lakh households in the city will get piped natural gas (PNG) in two years for which GAIL Gas Ltd. has put the required infrastructure in place. PNG connections have been provided to 57,000 households and 4,700 houses are using PNG in place of conventional LPG gas cylinders.

GAIL has also readied CNG stations at Laggere, Sumanahalli, Hennur and Peenya to cater to vehicles that run on gas, and will be adding 14 stations. The company is in talks with Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) to build a station.
