EPF protest: Manjunathappa remains critical

April 23, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:32 am IST - BENGALURU:

Manjunathappa (44), who sustained an injury in the chest when police opened fire during the recent protest by garment factory workers, continues to be critical.

Doctors treating him at Sparsh Hospital in Bommasandra said a fresh CT scan showed ‘blood clots in the chest cavity compressing the lung tissue’.

Sharanu Patil, medical director of Sparsh Hospital, said, “A major surgery was done where we opened the left side of his chest and removed all the clots to enable the lung to re-expand and improve oxygenation. He is in the ICU for artificial ventilation for a period of 48 to 72 hours. We will have to wait and see how he responds in the next couple of days.”
