About 1.6 lakh calls and 7,205 complaints have been received by the elders’ helpline in the city since 2002. Most of these are cases of abuse of elders, said Radha S. Murthy, managing trustee of the Nightingales Medical Trust, which runs the helpline with the Bangalore police.
She was speaking at the inauguration of the Spandana complex at Malleswaram police station on Friday. The complex houses three centres for elders’ helpline (1090), women’s helpline (1091) and community policing. This is the second Spandana complex to be inaugurated in the city, after the one in Basavanagudi last year.
City Police Commissioner Raghavendra H. Auradkar said complexes would be set up in all seven police divisions in the offices of the jurisdictional Deputy Commissioner of Police. In the next phase, they would be set up in Assistant Commissioner of Police offices and police stations.
