Education Department had given the nod to school

But now, BEO may be asked to explain violations

Even though the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) now wants to register a criminal case against the school in Jalahalli for violation of rules, officials had some months ago stated that it had complied with all norms. As per documents accessed by The Hindu , the then Block Education Officer (North 2) K.G. Anjanappa, who has since retired, had in December 2013 said that the school was running classes in Kannada medium and complying with all guidelines. He had recommended renewal of the school’s affiliation.

However, the department, on Thursday, said that a notice would be issued to the current Block Education Officer (North 2) Basavaraj Gowda for failing to check violation of rules.

The school had applied to CBSE for provisional affiliation in June 2014 and is yet to obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the State government in this regard.

Commissioner for Public Instruction Mohammad Mohsin said preliminary reports indicated that similar violations were noticed the school’s other branches as well. “We have sought a report and will initiate action against other schools too,” he said.

Sources in the department, however, said many schools could be found guilty of violating norms. The most common violation, they said, was imparting classes in English after obtaining permission for Kannada medium. This, private school managements conceded, was done as the language policy was in court.

Recently, private school managements had urged the department to change all the schools that are in Kannada medium on record to English medium ones after the Supreme Court quashed the State government’s review petition.
