Driver's arrest in false accident case leads to Traffic Inspector's suspension

A Traffic Inspector was suspended for trying to save a businessman involved in a road accident and arrested his driver instead for a personal favour.

The accused, Jagadish, attached to Chikkajala Police Station was caught by a Senior Police Officer based on a tip-off. He visited the Station and questioned the Driver who was arrested on the charges of ‘death due to negligence’.

According to the police, on May 20 Bhavesh, son of Dinesh a textile merchant in Chickpet, was rashly driving his vehicle (Honda City car) and hit a motorcycle with two people on Meenukunte, Hosur Road. The pillion was killed while the rider was severely injured.

Police officials, who rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation, did not arrest Bhavesh but arrested his driver Teja the next day, charging him under section 304 (a).

However Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S. Girish who was tipped off about the development, rushed to the Police Station and questioned Teja, who narrated the whole story saying that he was forced to confess to the crime with the promise of monitory benefit.

Mr. Girish let off Teja and directed the police to arrest Bhavesh and remanded him to judicial custody.

Taking a strong objection, Mr. Girish brought this to the notice of City Police Commissioner M.N. Reddi and submitted a detailed report, based on which Jagadish was suspended pending enquiry.

The victim, Ramachadra, was a native of Hosadurga and working as construction labourer at Janapriya Apartment. The motorcycle rider Ajay who sustained severe injuries is being treated at a Private Hospital.
