Maverick actor-politician Upendra, who believes in doing everything in a way that grabs eyeballs, is ready with his autobiography titled Idanna Odbedi (Don’t read this). The 144-page book is set to hit the stalls on Wednesday.
“The first 10 pages of the book will be as interesting, as any of Upendra’s films and it makes readers sit up and think,” promises publisher Jameel Savanna, adding they do not wish to officially launch a film because it is not hard to ‘organise an event and ask people not to read a book!’
Upendra describes it as a ‘mini autobiography’ and said that he recorded his thoughts ‘as and when they came’ and jotted them down the way he scripts his films, and later corrected them when he found the time.

The book, the publisher says, offers a vivid description of his childhood, youth, experience in cinema, hard times and entry into politics among other things. “It is a bare-it-all experiment of Upendra, who never minces words,” he said.
To a query on whether Upendra has timed the release of his autobiography with the launch of his political party Karnataka Pragnyavantha Janatha Paksha (KPJP), Savanna said it was meant to be launched about two months ago. He added that the fact that they are planning a launch is testimony to the two not being not linked.
“It just happened because of the pressure from Jameel, my friend, who pressured me to complete the writing. I discussed everything the way I speak in films, that is, without any filters,” said Upendra.

Savanna Publications has published other two works about Upendra — Namma Uppi - Hattiradavaru Kandante (Our Uppi, as seen by people near him) and Uppiginta Ruchi Bere Illa (Nothing as tasty as salt).
