As many as 259 Dalit families are waiting with bated breath for allotment of sites at Dr. Ambedkar Nagar in Yelahanka. Protesting under the aegis of the Dalita Sangharsha Samiti at the BBMP head office on Friday, they urged the BBMP Commissioner to release the requisite funds to the Karnataka Housing Board and allot sites to them.
To enable transfer of the sites developed on two acres and 17 guntas of land, the BBMP has to pay Rs. 77.85 lakh to the KHB. However, the civic body had not taken any initiative in this regard, even though the KHB is ready to hand over the land to the BBMP.
Chandra Kumar, a 24-year-old autorickshaw driver, claimed that the BBMP officials were delaying the process citing “legal issues.”

DSS president H. Maharappa said: “Contentious issues between the BBMP and KHB should be resolved immediately and sites allotted as soon as possible.”
