Srinagar’s famous floating market comes to Bangalore this August, with one of Dal Lake’s typical boats set to be recreated with flowers at the Lalbagh Independence Day flower show.
The boat replica, 35 ft long, 13 ft high and 12 ft wide, decorated with more than 2 lakh roses, will be the centrepiece of the show to be inaugurated on Wednesday.
The space around the boat will be made to look like water. “We will have vegetables and fruits loaded on the floral boat,” deputy director of Lalbagh Botanical Gardens J. Gunavanth told presspersons here on Monday.

Highlights
Another highlight of the flower show this year will be ‘Mega Hand’, an arrangement symbolising growth and production.
A vertical garden 40 ft wide and 17 ft high, with more than 5,000 plants including Rhoeo discolour, Syngonium and Tradescantia will be displayed for the first time.

Plants such as Cyclomen, petunias, Clarkia, Centuria, glicinia, hollyhock, Ageratum, snapdragon, Nasturtium, Cosmos, Salvia, marigold, dahlia, chrysanthemums and sweet peas will be used to demonstrate the roof garden concept.
“These two concepts have been introduced to create awareness among Bangaloreans about gardening. The city offers a lot of scope for both vertical and roof gardens,” Horticulture Department Director D.L. Maheswar said.
The flower show will include pavilions for bonsais as well as a host of colourful flowering plants and rare ornamental plants. Stalls will sell manure, seeds, pesticides, plants, pots and other items required for a nursery.
Expos
The Ikebana, Indian floral art, vegetable carving and bonsai exhibition will be inaugurated on Friday by Minister of State for Women and Child Development Umashree.
