Congress legislators want CBI probe into 11 cases

March 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - BENGALURU:

Hit by the Opposition’s victory in getting a Central Bureau of Investigation probe ordered into the death of IAS officer D.K. Ravi, Congress legislators on Wednesday asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to also handover to the CBI 11 cases into which the party had demanded a probe by the Central agency during the terms of JD(S)–BJP coalition and BJP governments (2006–13).

The cases include the church attacks, Rs. 150-crore graft charge against the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, ‘mysterious’ death of the wife of the former BJP MLA Raghupathi Bhat, violence after the death of Kannada actor Rajkumar, alleged rape case against the former BJP Minister H. Halappa, deaths of people in the Beggars’ Rehabilitation Centre in Bengaluru, and alleged irregularities in the BBMP.

The legislators made the demand at the Congress Legislature Party meeting chaired by Mr. Siddaramaiah on Wednesday where the Chief Minister reportedly expressed anguish that a majority of the party legislators and Ministers did not back him during the Opposition’s offensive against the government following Ravi’s death.
