The State police will have a permanent memorial to observe Police Commemoration Day, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said here on Saturday.

Addressing police officers after receiving the guard of hour at the KSRP grounds, Mr. Siddaramaiah said the government is committed to ensuring welfare of police personnel.

“It is the bound duty of the government to ensure the safety and welfare of their families,” he said.

The State government is considering the pay disparities among the police personnel and has provided many facilities as an interim measure, including promotion and pay hike. Since last year, 370 police personnel across the country, and 12 in Karnataka, have died in the line of duty. Mr. Siddaramaiah said the State police force will soon have its own stadium for sports and other activities.

Terming their job as the toughest job, the Chief Minister said the police force should adopt innovative technologies to counter anti-social activities. Trust among people will increase when police officers detect crimes and ensure convictions, he added.
