College chairperson, PRO booked on charge of duping medical seat aspirants

The public relations officer of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Medical College here was among two persons arrested by the Central Crime Branch sleuths on the charges of duping medical seat aspirants and pocketing lakhs of rupees.

The police have also booked M.K. Kempasiddaiah, chairman of the college, and his son Shiva Kumar. The police identified the accused as A. Amanulla, (52), a resident of R.T. Nagar, along with his associate Abdul Rahman Khan (59). The two have been remanded in judicial custody till August 14.

They were arrested after a complaint filed by Hemaraj, uncle of Siddarth, a medical seat aspirant, who allegedly paid Rs. 58 lakh to the accused for the seat under management quota. Following the complaint, CCB officials picked up Sriharsha, Shivaraju and Ayub Ali on July 22, and they in turn spilled the beans about their associate Amanulla and Abdul Rahman Khan.

Kempasiddaiah and Shiva Kumar, who have also been booked under similar charges, have obtained anticipatory bail, police said.
