Three consecutive days of rain in Bengaluru has left the city’s civic infrastructure battered, and once again exposed the poor condition of roads.
Thippasandra Main Road, Tin Factory, B. Narayanapura, Ballari Road, HSR Layout Sector 6 and 7, among other places, were badly affected. Residents of BTM Layout, Bommananhalli, Byatarayanapura, Koramangala, and parts of Banashankari as well as HSR Layout complained of water entering their homes or basements.
According to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials, the civic body received 54 rain-related complaints, which were attended to as soon as possible.

BBMP Commissioner B.H. Anil Kumar had directed engineers to visit the worst-hit areas and see if a permanent solution can be found. “I will undertake a city inspection tour on Friday,” he said.
Mayor M. Goutham Kumar directed officials to attend to complaints from residents without delay.
As per India Meteorological Department (IMD) Bengaluru Director C.S. Patil, the south-west monsoon will make its presence felt over the next five days despite the rainy season officially ending on September 30.

‘Wells in the middles of roads’
Weeks after repairing bad roads and potholes themselves, Sri Kanakagiri Nivasigala Sangha (SKNS), a residents’ welfare association, on Wednesday posted a video of the pathetic condition of roads in their neighbourhoods. The roads had been dug up for BWSSB work but were not restored.
Padmanabhaiah Veluru of SKNS said, “They look like wells in the middle of roads, and are a safety hazard. Some of them have a depth of up to 3 feet.”
