Don’t wait for the others, do it yourself: members of the Revolutionizing India through Social Empowerment (R.I.S.E.) organisation sent out this message by conducting an awareness campaign at Kengeri Lake in Bangalore on Saturday.

The main aim of this campaign was to create awareness about saving the lake which is on the verge of death due to inadequate maintenance.

Naga Sravan Kilaru, president of R.I.S.E., Bangalore, said, “We tried to create awareness about the importance of saving water to retain the sustainability of groundwater.

“Through this campaign, we demand the immediate release of the local area development fund to revitalise the lake before monsoon.

“Even now, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Forest Department continue to pass the buck by holding each other responsible for the state of the lake.”

Mohan Kumar, vice-president of R.I.S.E., said, “Apart from proper maintenance of the lake, we demand for the setting up of public toilets near the lake so that people get the point.”
