A group of citizen activists and organisations have written an eight-page letter to Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy with a list of demands as part of the newly launched #BengaluruDemands campaign. A copy was marked to Deputy Chief Minister and City Development Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara.
This comes days after Mr. Kumaraswamy met N.R. Narayana Murthy and B.PAC. The campaign, under the aegis of United Bengaluru, is led by freedom fighter H.S. Doreswamy and was initiated by the Namma Bengaluru Foundation of BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar.
The letter pitches for several reforms in various areas, including mobility, water and solid waste management. It asks the chief minister to act against commercialisation of residential areas, and that representation of residents’ welfare associations on ward committees be increased to 50%. Reconstitution of the Bengaluru Metropolitan Planning Committee, repealing the diluted RERA rules and the recent Karnataka Tank Conservation and Development Act, are some of the other demands.

The group has also sought the formation of an Integrated Water Management Authority, bringing all functions of Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) along with responsibility for stormwater drains, rainwater harvesting, groundwater and lake rejuvenation under the authority.
