The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has completed investigations into the suicide of businessman Ripon Malhotra, who allegedly took the extreme step after being pressed for a bribe by the former City Police Commissioner B.G. Jyothi Prakash Mirji and the former head of the crime branch D. Devaraj.

Malhotra, the 54-year-old CEO of the stockbrokering firm Rippons Group of Companies, accused Mr. Mirji and Mr. Devaraj, in his suicide note, of trying to extort Rs. 7 crore from him and acting like “recovery agents”. He had posted his suicide note to the Chief Minister’s office, forcing an embarrassed government to order a CID enquiry.

After three months of investigation, the report has been submitted to the Director-General of Police (CID) Bipin Gopalkrishna.
