Another windfall of grace marks

June 02, 2015 09:25 am | Updated April 03, 2016 01:15 am IST - BENGALURU:

This year saw a windfall in grace marks for students. While 14 grace marks were awarded in the II Pre-University (PU) exams, those who wrote the Common Entrance Test (CET) also got eight grace marks.

A break-up given in this year’s CET showed that the maximum grace marks were given in biology (three), followed by physics and mathematics (two each), and one mark in chemistry.

However, this is lower than what was awarded during the previous years, Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) officials claimed. While 18 grace marks were awarded in CET – 2013, with biology and physics seeing marks as high as seven and six respectively, CET – 2014 saw 16 grace marks being given to students (nine in chemistry).

Meanwhile, for thousands of students still hinging their hopes on photocopying, re-totalling and re-evaluation of II PU results, June 14 will become a crucial day as the results of the same will be announced. For those who will see a change in marks (among others), spot ranks (G55) will be assigned automatically by the KEA software, without disturbing the rank numbers of other candidates.
