CCTV system to ensure safety

Every metro station and train is equipped with closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to ensure security to passengers and public property.

The CCTV cameras are linked to the station controllers and the operations control centre through Broadband Radio Service, a wireless video relay system. Besides the CCTV cameras, private security guards will be deployed at each station and train to ensure security. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) is yet to decide on seeking police security and whether it would come from the Central or the State Government.

Each station has two emergency trip systems (ETS) to stop the train.

One set sends a message to train operators and stops power supply to the station while the other stops the power supply to the entire metro network.

The Global Positioning System enables all stations to have uniform timings. The LED display with time also displays the schedule of three train sets.

Passengers are permitted to carry a maximum luggage of 25 kg. The luggage, however, should not exceed the prescribed size of 60 cm in length, 45 cm in width and 25 cm in height.

There will be one loco pilot-cum-operator to man every station; eight such pilots will man the operations control centre at Byappanahalli. Ninety-six people have been trained so far by the Delhi Metro in two batches.

The pilot's cabin in the metro train will have rear-view LCD panels showing live images, which will enable him to help people with disabilities to board the train.

Every platform is equipped with an SOS system to cut off power supply in case of emergencies and to alert the signalling crew. Every third station will have track changing facility.
