CCTV cameras in buses for women’s safety

June 21, 2013 09:51 am | Updated November 17, 2021 02:54 am IST - Bangalore:

To reassure women of safe travel and keep an eye on troublemakers, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will install CCTV cameras in 500 of its buses for a start.

Tenders have been called and the installation process would commence soon, Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said, and added that gradually all BMTC buses operating on late evening schedules will have CCTV cameras.

A few months ago, two Bhutan girls were allegedly manhandled by a bus crew. The Minister said the cameras would also monitor crew behaviour as well as potential molesters.
