The Central Crime Branch (CCB) paraded drug peddlers in the city on Friday. While parading rowdies is a routine exercise, this is the first time police have done the same with drug peddlers.

Over 60 men named in cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 were paraded. Additional Commissioner (Crime) Alok Kumar said that the aim was to publicly shame drug peddlers and announce that repeat offenders would be booked under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act, 2000.

When quizzed of the source of ganja, many drug peddlers said they sourced it from Kolar, Chintamani, Shidlaghatta, Anekal, Hosakote, Chamarajanagar, Kollegal and other neighbouring towns.

Alok Kumar said the CCB would take the drug peddlers to these areas to identify their suppliers and book cases against them.
