‘CCB forced me to sell my plot’

Central Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths are usually in the news for the raids they conduct, but were at the receiving end on Saturday.

Their headquarters in Shoolay Circle was raided by a Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) team that rescued a CA who had been illegally detained.

The CA has alleged that he was abducted by CCB sleuths at the behest of realtor Abdul Sattar, who wanted to buy his plot of land.

Sheikh Nizamuddin recounted that he was on his way to office when he noticed a car following him. “I tried calling the city police control room but couldn’t get through. I called my wife and gave her the car number, asking her to alert the police. The car intercepted mine and a man who claimed to be a police officer got into my car. He forced me to drive to the CCB headquarters,” he alleged.

Mr. Nizamuddin alleged that he was abused by the officer, later identified as S. Dayanand, a sub-inspector of police.

He alleged that Abdul Sattar was at the CCB office. CCB officials forced him to sign documents effectively selling his plot for Rs. 57 lakh to Abdul Sattar.

Mr. Nizamuddin said that the officers had snatched his mobile and returned it only at 4 p.m.

He called his wife and apprised her of the incident. His wife, Nazreen, contacted SHRC whose members promptly landed at the CCB headquarters to rescue Mr. Nizamuddin.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Radhakrishna, who is attached to the SHRC, led the raid. He found Mr. Nizamuddin in the custody of Sub-Inspector Dayanand.

He also found Abdul Sattar and his associate Srinivasamurthy on the CCB premises.
