The all-important II Pre University (PU) course results are out. With that, students have crossed a hurdle. But what next? The Hindu EducationPlus, as every year, is stepping in to help them find an answer to this crucial question with its annual career counselling sessions.

An off-page extension of our weekly supplement, The Hindu EducationPlus, The Hindu EducationPlus Career Counselling 2013 will be held in 15 centres this time, one up from last year (see table for dates and venues).

In the two-and-a-half hour interactive session, officials from the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) will demystify the online counselling procedure. In addition, they will also tell the students about the new elements in the Common Entrance Test (CET) procedure: the inclusion of agriculture courses and the introduction of lateral entry into engineering courses for BSc graduates.

Participants will also have the opportunity to hear from leading academicians on the various courses and the career options available. Agricultural scientists will be there to tell you all about farm courses. Apart from informative presentations and talks, the experts will also be available to clear doubts and queries on topics ranging from engineering to medical to agricultural courses and even financing higher education. In Bangalore, P. Anandan, managing director of Microsoft Research India, will be the chief guest. Drawing from his long and illustrious career in computer science and research, he will speak on careers and research, and what it takes to be at the cutting edge of one’s chosen path or career.

Acknowledging that the sea of information available online may not exactly be providing the in-depth data students are looking for, The Hindu EducationPlus’ Career Handbook 2013 — a well researched publication on the emerging careers and courses — will be distributed free to all participants. Titled The Great Leap , it throws light on emerging as well as established careers and courses by subject experts.

The title sponsor for the event is State Bank of India, while the associate sponsors are Dr. T. Thimmiah Institute of Technology, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, Sambhram Institute of Technology, Padmashree Group of Institutions, Rajarajeswari Medical College and Hospital, and Bearys Institute of Technology.

Students of Classes 10, 11, 12 PU, and their parents, are invited. In case of further queries, send an email with your name, choice of centre and query to epkarnataka@gmail.com
