In a suspected case of honour killing, a 25-year-old cab driver was allegedly stabbed to death on Tuesday night by his brother-in-law eight months after he married outside his caste. The incident took place on the outskirts of Nallur village where the couple resided.
According to the police, Harish Muninarayanappa from the Nayaka community had fallen in love with Meenakshi, a resident of Nallur, who belonged to the Thigala community.
The Channarayapatna police have arrested the accused, Meenakshi’s brother Vinay Kumar, 22, who allegedly claimed that his family had opposed his sister’s marriage to Harish as they are from different castes.

“Harish, a resident of Bidaluru, was born and brought up near Nallur. He went to a college in Devanahalli where he fell in love with Meenakshi,” said a police officer.
Though Meenakshi’s family allegedly opposed their relationship, the couple get married eight months ago with the help of Harish’s friends and a few of his family members. “To earn more money, he also got into the money lending business,” the officer added.
On Tuesday around 10 p.m., Harish left the house for work but did not return. The police learned that he had been called to an isolated location on the outskirts of Nallur where he was allegedly stabbed by Vinay. A few passers-by spotted the body on Wednesday morning and alerted the police.

“Further investigations are underway to ascertain if anyone else was involved in the murder,” a senior police officer said.
The Channarayapatna police have registered a case of murder and have arrested Vinay, based on a complaint by Harish’s father Muninarayanappa.
