Department seeks details of teachers who are irregular

The bio-metric attendance system has been made mandatory for teachers of aided degree colleges.

The Department of Collegiate Education issued a circular in this regard on Friday and has instructed colleges to submit details of those who report late to work, leave college early or are absent. If colleges fail to update the attendance, the department will be unable to process the salaries of these teachers.

M.N. Ajay Nagabhushan, Commissioner of the department, said that aided colleges should use their own funds to set up this system. The biometric attendance system was implemented in government colleges several years ago.

H. Prakash, president, Karnataka Government College Teachers’ Association, welcomed the move. “This will improve accountability. Teachers should not only take classes, but also be present in the premises during college hours so that they can be available for students,” he said.
