Bengaluru varsity gives another chance to pass degree exams

Updated - May 22, 2015 01:10 pm IST - Bengaluru

Bangalore University (BU) alumni, who had not cleared their degree exams, irrespective of the year, will now be given a chance to clear these papers and earn a degree certificate.

After benefiting 1,864 candidates the first time in 2015, the varsity has decided to extend the one-time measure once more.

This time, BU is allowing candidates bypass the earlier requirement of having at least 50 per cent of the papers, allowing anyone to attempt the exam and pass it.

FIR against Registrar

Bangalore University will file an FIR against former Registrar (Evaluation) R.K. Somashekhar soon, for his alleged involvement in malpractice in the evaluation process of the December 2013 Distance Education Exams. Based on a tip-off in April last year, the varsity conducted a cross examination of the answer-scripts and the marks cards issued to the students and found major discrepancies, Vice-Chancellor B. Thimme Gowda said.

This will be the second time that the varsity will file a police complaint against the former Registrar.

BU had earlier filed a complaint against him for allegedly issuing a fake marks-card to a student in the name of another who had graduated long ago.
