Sunil K., software engineer: There is heavy movement of vehicles at the Hebbal flyover–Ring Road junction. Vehicles often speed down the flyover. It takes a minimum five minutes to cross the busy junction. Pedestrians have to risk their lives to cross the road.

Kamala J., resident of K.R. Puram: It is frustrating to be on the road between 9.30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Vehicular movement becomes slower than a crawl near Nagawara junction where the BDA is constructing a flyover. It is chaotic during the evening peak hours.

Harshavardhan M., software engineer: I live close by and prefer walking to my workplace. It is difficult to get even to the gate because of the huge volume of vehicles that enter the tech park through the first gate. I walk up to the other gate even if it takes me that extra 10 minutes.

A ‘tragic box’

M.N. Sreehari, adviser to Government of Karnataka for traffic, transport and infrastructure: The first thing that should be done to ease vehicular movement on Bellary Road is to remove the magic box underpass at Cauvery junction. It is a “tragic box” as it is unscientific and contributes to traffic hold-up at the junction. The other solution is to develop the service roads on ring road. Currently, lot of sand lorries are parked on the service roads, especially near Lumbini Gardens. Vehicular movement will be streamlined once the Bus Rapid Transport System that has been planned from Silk Board junction to Hebbal flyover is implemented.

B. Dayanand, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic): The major bottleneck is at Hebbal flyover. We have identified this as a place where traffic piles up and have suggested a signal-free flyover from High Grounds junction to Hebbal. After the flyover is constructed by the BDA, the traffic snarls are likely to be reduced. The magic box underpass at Cauvery junction is another area where vehicles pile up and traffic police authorities are deployed there during peak hours to regulate traffic.
