BCCI-K on U.K.'s Climate Change Act

The Bangalore Climate Change Initiative-Karnataka (BCCI-K) is mulling over drafting legislation on the lines of the U.K.’s Climate Change Act, and to appeal to elected representatives of both Houses to adopt the same.

Legislative Council chairperson D.H. Shankaramurthy, who is also the mentor of BCCI-K, said a workshop for legislators would be organised in Shivamogga to educate them on the importance of the Paris pact on climate change.

While studies by BCCI-K show that green growth opportunities in Karnataka could avoid Greenhouse Gas Emissions, the studies also show that major crops would be adversely impacted leading to concerns about sustainable food production and food security if the climate change mitigation goal was not achieved, former Minister B.K. Chandrashekar said.
