BBMP computer operators call off strike

The computer operators of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike, who were on an indefinite strike demanding their pending salaries, temporarily called off their strike on Wednesday.

The operators called off their strike after the BBMP released Rs. 2.09 crore to the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Ltd. (Keonics) towards the payment of their salaries from December 2012 to March 2013.

The Hindu that Keonics officials had assured the striking workers that the pending salaries would be remitted to their accounts within a week. “We were also assured that the salaries would be remitted into our accounts by the 7th of each month. We will give Keonics a week’s time. If the salaries are not credited into our accounts by then, we will continue with our protest,” he said.

He also said that Keonics had also assured to settle the pending Employee State Insurance and Provident Fund.

With the 810 computer operators on strike for two consecutive days, the property tax collections of the BBMP was affected to a certain extent.

It is said that the computer operators will resume work from Thursday.
