The city’s roads are in a bad shape because of the frequent road cutting by Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) and Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (Bescom); the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is not to be blamed directly, said A.H. Basavaraju, chairperson of Standing Committee for Ward-level Works.
He said that just a few months after the BBMP asphalted a road, Bescom and BWSSB often dug up for some reason or the other. Yet, it is always the BBMP that was blamed for the poor condition of roads. Henceforth, if the civic agencies did not restore the roads after they complete the repairs, the BBMP would issue notices to them, he warned.
On Thursday, the standing committee inspected roads in Chickpet, Padmanabhanagar and Basavanagudi Assembly constituencies. The committee noted that even after the completion of work, the civic agencies had not restored the roads to their earlier condition.

At the entrance of Siddaiah Road under Chikpet Assembly Constituency, the committee noticed that the Bescom transformer was placed right on the footpath. The transformer had been fenced and several people were dumping garbage and littering the surroundings.
Citizens complained to the committee that the BWSSB had dug up the entire stretch of the road at least three months ago and had not repaired it.
It was a similar situation even at 2nd Main Road at Chennammanakere Achkattu coming under Basavanagudi Assembly Constituency. However, BWSSB’s executive engineer, who was present, assured the committee of asphalting of the stretch within 20 days.

Similarly, the BWSSB had dug up 1 Main Road, behind Kamakya cinema in Padmanabhanagar Assembly constituency to lay drinking water pipeline.
