A female employee of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL), residing in the quarters at Baiyappanahalli, was in for a shock on finding an unidentified man, armed with a knife, sitting in the corner of her bed when she woke up in the wee hours of January 11.
The woman, Arpitha, 24, alerted her colleague, who was sleeping on the adjacent bed. One seeing the intruder walking around their room wielding a knife, they questioned him. Initially, he claimed to be a watchman, but later admitted to being a thief. After some time, he took the inner garments left to dry in the balcony.
One of the woman raised an alarm. Seeing security guards rushing to the spot, the intruder fled.

In her complaint, Ms. Arpitha, a loco pilot, stated that she had returned to the quarters after attending a friend’s birthday party, along with her friends. Around 2.30 a.m., she woke up on sensing some movement in the room. She saw a man, aged around 25 years, sitting at the corner of her bed. He was wearing a cream T-shirt and spoke in Kannada.
The Baiyappanahalli police have taken up a case under trespass and criminal intimidation. “There was no CCTV camera in the quarters. We are examining CCTV footage in and around the area,” a senior police officer said.
BMRCL maintained that though there was trespass, no one was hurt in the incident. "On January 11, 2018 at about 2 a.m., an unknown person trespassed into Tower 1 of the residential complex and entered a ladies quarters. He spoke irrelevant matters for about half-an-hour before leaving without hurting anyone. The BMRCL staff occupying the quarters have lodged a police complaint with the Baiyappanahalli police, " a statement from BMRCL said.
