A gold Pagoda coin issued by a 12th century ruler in the Dharwad region was sold on Friday for Rs. 5.75 lakh at an auction here.
A silver double coin, called ‘Haidari’, issued by Tipu Sultan went for Rs. 2.3 lakh at the auction.
Marudhar Arts, which is conducting the auction, confirmed the sale of both extremely rare coins, but did not disclose the identity of the buyers.

The auction is part of a three-day national numismatic exhibition that got under way on Friday.
The gold Pagoda coin was going under the hammer for the first time. It was issued by King Barma Bhopala, of the Toragale dynasty in Dharwad region, who is understood to have ruled for just four to five months.
The 23-gram Haidari was issued by Tipu in 1790 to honour his father Hyder Ali. Another rare silver 1/32 anna coin, also issued by Tipu, was snapped up for Rs. 52,000.

If you are looking for rare coins, currency notes, stamps and antiques, head to Bell Hotel in Majestic where the exhibition is on. As many as 60 dealers from across the country are showcasing their collection.
On Friday, collectors and numismatic enthusiasts were at the exhibition, buying, selling and exchanging their precious wares.
The exhibition opens at 10 a.m. and will be on till Sunday.
