Leader of the Opposition in the BBMP Council M. Udayshankar has rubbished the allegations levelled against the councillors by president of CREDAI Sushil Mantri, who is also chairman and managing director of Mantri Developers Pvt. Ltd.
In a release here on Tuesday, he said that it was the duty of the councillors to bring to the notice of the officials concerned and the Commissioner problems faced by the general public, violation of bylaws during construction etc.
He said that if Mantri Developers had acted in public interest, the residents of Malleswaram would not have suffered so much.

“They have sought political favours and are dilly-dallying on measures to be taken in public interest,” he said in the release.
Mr. Udayshankar said that the developer had given an undertaking to give up four metres of land for road widening.
As per Section 310 of the Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act, 1976, the BBMP can demolish any structures on the land without giving any notice.

Meanwhile, councillors held an emergency meeting on Tuesday and have decided to study all the projects which were sanctioned during the two and half years of administrative rule. Deputy Mayor S. Harish, who chaired the meeting, said they were now looking at all possible alternatives, including that of relooking into previously sanctioned building plans of various developers, especially malls, which came under the CREDAI.
Janata Dal (Secular) leader Padmanabha Reddy challenged the builders to give specific instances of councillors demanding money.
