Activists oppose Bill on transgender rights

December 16, 2015 12:00 am | Updated March 24, 2016 10:09 am IST - BENGALURU:

Several activist groups have urged the Union government to withdraw the Bill on transgender rights that is scheduled to be presented before the Lok Sabha.

The Rights of Transgender Persons Bills, 2014 was passed by the Rajya Sabha recently.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday, advocate B.T. Venkatesh said the Bill was too ambiguous to be implemented. “It has anomalies. There is a need for a Parliamentary Committee to frame a fresh Bill involving the community members,” he said. Nisha Goolur, a member of Sangama, said the Bill was being taken up without even conducting an in-depth study into the problems of the community.
