Karnataka Pustakotsava 2014 opened at Freedom Park on Friday

The Karnataka Pustakotsava 2014 was inaugurated by poet Siddhalingaiah at Freedom Park in the city on Friday.

The book fair, which will be on till September 14, boasts of 130 stalls displaying various genres of books on education, history, devotion, culinary, biographies and children’s book among others.

The fair attracted about 3,000 visitors on day one and organisers expect the numbers to touch 8,000 during the weekend.

Retired teacher G.D. Kshirsagar came all the way from Jalahalli and picked up books on Sir M. Visveswaraiah. “I was happy to find these copies on the great engineer. More books will be displayed over the days. I found a large collection of Kannada books here,” he said.

The stalls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and cultural activities will also be staged at the park.

Bharatanatyam, Dollu Kunitha, Kollatta, Jugalbandhi, music performances, poetry meetings and drawing competitions for children will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on all the days.
