IBL juggernaut rolls into the city today

The inaugural Vodafone Indian Badminton League (IBL) juggernaut rolls into the city on Saturday. And the 4,000-seater Sree Kanteerava Indoor facility is being readied for the same.

The organisers and the stadium in-charges worked round the clock for almost a month to help the venue gain some level of respectability to host a event of this nature, but a lot more could have been be done. Sadly, the time has run out on them.

And with almost 3,000 spectators at least expected to watch Saturday’s action, it could only get bigger on Sunday with the home team — Banga Beats playing — and more than two dozen lights burning, the chances are that it could be tough for the players and spectators alike. But then the facility has never been spectator-friendly since it was constructed.

The organisers are expecting a full house and the sports crazy Bangaloreans are expected to turn up in large numbers.
