The High Court on Monday asked the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to initiate appropriate steps for sterilising stray dogs in the city.
A Division Bench, comprising acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice Ravi Malimath, issued the direction while disposing of a PIL, which had questioned the government’s failure to set up mobile veterinary clinics in the city as per an earlier undertaking given to the Court.
Earlier, the government submitted to the Court that six vehicles had been provided for door-to-door mobile veterinary clinics across the city in lieu of the shifting of 31 of the total 56 veterinary clinics that existed in the city.

These mobile clinics would be in addition to the 25 veterinary clinics.
The government in 2014 decided to shift 31 clinics to other district as 25 clinics were found to be sufficient to cater to city’s livestock.
When this decision was questioned, the State government had assured the Court that a few mobile clinics would also be set up.
