The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has warned citizens that garbage will not be collected from homes where waste has not been segregated. The palike has been making slow progress in the implementation of segregation of waste at source. Wednesday was the third day since it was made compulsory but several residents are yet to comply.
Asked if those violating the rule will be fined, Deputy Mayor L. Srinivas told The Hindu waste from such houses will not be collected.
The BBMP is continuing to hold awareness drives throughout the city. On Thursday, a workshop will be held for hotel owners in the Rajajinagar Industrial Area about waste segregation.

Commissioner Rajneesh Goel pegged the progress on Day 3 at 32 per cent. “We are ensuring that there is some progress every day. On the first day, we achieved 20 per cent, and on Day-2 it reached 30 per cent. We are also focussing on particular wards every day. On Tuesday, it was Yelahanka, and on Wednesday it was Girinagar and Koramangala, where we saw 80 per cent compliance.”
A total of 39 tonnes of wet waste, 149 kg of sanitary waste and 817 kg of dry waste were collected on Wednesday. The East Zone recorded the highest quantity of mixed (non-segregated) waste, followed by South, while Dasarahalli and Yelahanka zones recorded the least.
