Check posts, CCTV cameras and a stricter curfew are what students and the general public will have to get used to soon within Bangalore University’s Jnana Bharathi campus.
Following a security review meeting held here Wednesday following the recent sexual assault on a law student, it was resolved to beef up security significantly within the campus.
The meeting was attended by Acting Vice-Chancellor N. Rangaswamy, Registrar (Administration) B.C. Mylarappa and heads of institutions sharing the campus with Bangalore University — the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), National Council for Teachers’ Education (NCTE), Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Regional Institute of English South India (RIESI) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

The meeting decided NLSIU’s main gate will closed by 7 p.m. and students will not be allowed to go out without a valid reason after that.
Security booths will be set up at the junction between the NLSIU and Bangalore University campuses and near the Gandhi Bhavan.

The personnel there will note down vehicle numbers and identity of visitors. CCTVs will be installed at several junctions.
The City Commissioner of Police will be approached to beef up staff at the Jnanabharathi police station and to ensure that the patrol vehicles ply regularly in the premises.
Investigation on
Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) S.N. Siddharamappa said eight teams are currently investigating the sexual assault that took place near the Gandhi Bhavan.
The young woman’s friend who was with her is being summoned for further questioning.
