Security tightened for I-Day

Around 270 Hoysalas, 320 Cheetahs, two commando vehicles, and two bullet-proof vehicles have been deployed

Security has been tightened and patrolling intensified ahead of the Independence Day celebrations at Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds in the city.

Around 270 Hoysalas, 320 Cheetahs, two commando vehicles, and two bullet-proof vehicles have been deployed in the city for security. The police have been asked to keep an eye on people residing in lodges, hotels and other accommodations, and to report any suspicious behaviour.

“We will do everything in our capacity to ensure the Independence Day celebrations go smoothly across the city,” Police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh told mediapersons on Saturday. He later briefed police officials on managing security in the run-up to the day.

A large number of police officials will be on duty till Monday, including 12 DCPs, 22 ACPs, 55 police inspectors, 105 sub-inspectors, Garuda commandos, 40 KSRP battalions, and two quick-response teams.

Two bomb detection and disposal squads have also been deployed, along with vapour detectors and baggage scanners.

Forty CCTV cameras have been installed in and around the parade grounds. The police have banned the operation of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles till Monday in the city.

Security will be increased in malls, hotels, railway stations, metro stations, and bus-stands.
