In view of the threat perception in Bengaluru, the State government plans to put in place tight security cover for the inauguration of the eighth edition of the Bengaluru International Film Festival (BIFFes), scheduled to be held in front of Vidhana Soudha on Thursday.

Addressing reporters on Monday, Minister for Information and Infrastructure Roshan Baig said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had held a high-level meeting with City Police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh and discussed the security measures to be put in place.

This is the first time BIFFes will be inaugurated on the steps of Vidhana Soudha, and many noted film personalities like Rajya Sabha member Jaya Bachchan, directors Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Aparna Sen, and Dadasaheb Phalke Award recipient Gulzar will be present, besides Kannada actors like Shivarajkumar and Sudeep.

Those who have passes and numbered invitations issued by the authorities will be permitted to enter the venue, and tight scanning mechanism would be in place at all entry points. “While VVIPs, VIPs and media persons will be allowed to enter from the western gate, invitees and dignitaries will come to the venue through the northern gate (opposite to the High Court),” Mr. Baig said.

Similar security cover will be provided at Orion Mall, where dignitaries and international juries will participate in film screening, master classes, interactions and other academic activities.

Security for the valediction, to be held in front of Mysuru Palace, will also be tight, with dignitaries such as Kamal Hassan set to participate.
