A weekend dinner at a restaurant serving Chinese cuisine turned messy for the family of a businessman when they were served chicken noodles instead of vegetarian noodles. This vegetarian family has now filed a complaint with the Subramanyapura police, accusing the restaurant of “hurting (their) religious sentiments”.
The incident occurred at Mainland China in Orion Mall, Yeshwantpur, where Ankith Sharaf and his family were dining on Sunday. The mix-up came to light when one of the family members noticed shredded chicken pieces and alerted the others. However, by the time it was noticed, some in the family had taken a couple of bites of the noodles, sources said.
According to their complaint, when the shocked family sought an explanation, the restaurant allegedly refused to hand over the bill, which according to Mr. Sharaf, mentioned the dish served as chicken noodles. Enraged, the family filed a police complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police summoned the manager and the staff, and filed a case of negligence against them under the Karnataka Police Act. They were slapped with a fine of Rs. 100 and let off with a warning. A police officer said the restaurant staff admitted to the mistake and apologised to the family. “It looks like it was not intentional and the restaurant staff have given an undertaking not to repeat the mistake,” the officer added.
Meanwhile, despite repeated calls by The Hindu , Mainland China did not comment on the issue.
