Peace returns to Goripalya

Goripalya in Jagjivan Ram Nagar, which witnessed a group clash on Friday night over raising funds for Ramzan, remained peaceful on Saturday even as the police arrested 22 persons in connection with the clash.

The police said that a large quantity of lethal weapons had been recovered from the area.

Additional police force had been deployed in the locality to maintain peace.

The police said that the clash broke out between two groups at Goripalya on Friday evening after supporters of former councillor Arif Pasha allegedly damaged several shops and vehicles following differences over raising funds for the Ramzan festival.

The former councillor was absconding after the clash, the police said.

Senior police officials, including Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari and Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Gopal B. Hosur visited Goripalya.
