July 27, 2010 05:04 pm | Updated 05:04 pm IST - Bangalore:

P.M. Sadashiva, chairperson, Standing Committee on Finance and Taxation, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), on Monday met with senior BJP councillors, Mayor S.K. Nataraj and Ruling Party Leader B.S. Sathyanarayana for pre-budget confabulations to elicit suggestions. Mr. Sadashiva told The Hindu that there were plenty of suggestions, including emphasis on infrastructure development, especially in the newly added areas, more schemes for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes from the Social Welfare Department, more day care centres for senior citizens and cycles for vegetable vendors.

“Councillors also suggested allocation for waste convertors in all the 198 wards, laboratories where senior citizens and diabetics could get blood sugar tests done, and priority to planting saplings in parks,” Mr. Sadashiva added. Hinting that both the Budget outlay and revenue generation will be more than that of last year, he said that councillors suggested trade licence melas at ward level.

“We will meet Opposition Party Leaders M. Nagaraj and Padmanabha Reddy soon to elicit their views too,” he added.
