Here is a store that has its heart in the right place. Called the Shree Dharmastala Siri Gramodyog Samsthe, it sells organic products such as fruits, vegetables, rice, dal and food items such as pickles, papads, rotis and chutneys sourced from nearly 2,000 SHGs. Apart from these products, items such as soaps, phenol and agarbathi and clay artefacts made by rural women are available here.

Location

The store, located at Nettakallappa Circle in N.R. Colony, was inaugurated by actor Tara earlier in the week.

“The proceeds of the sales will be directly given back to these rural women who will be able to support their families and send their children to school,” said executive director L.H. Manjunath.

As a concept SHG organic store, it was started in 2002 on an experimental basis in Belthangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district.

This is the first time that the products are being sold in the Bangalore market. “Today we have a turnover of Rs.10 crore by direct marketing and distribution,” said Dr. Manjunath.
