If you have lost your mobile phone, you won’t need to go all the way to a police station to register a complaint to get a new SIM card.

In an effort to streamline processes, Bengaluru city police have introduced an application for filing complaints about lost or misplaced articles and documents, such as passports, identity cards, mobile SIM cards, and so on, which do not require a police investigation but for which citizens need an official acknowledgement in order to get a replacement.

Once a report is filed, a person will get a digitally signed acknowledgement immediately. The app has security features to prevent misuse. People have to submit ID proof that will allow the police to keep records and track them if required.

The app, e-lost, is available for Android and iOS platforms.

City Police Commissioner N.S. Megharikh said, “This will be very useful for people, as they won’t need to take leave from office to come to the police station to file a complaint. This will also reduce the workload of the personnel at the station.”

He said the police receive hundreds of such complaints every day.
