A former Assistant Director with the Doordarshan Kendra in Chennai, engrossed in music on his iPod on his morning walk, was run over by a train at 6.50 a.m. near the Gokul Railway Level Crossing at Mathikere here on Monday.
The Yeshwanthpur Railway Police, quoting eyewitnesses, said K. Vyasarajan (69), a resident of MSR Road, was carelessly crossing the railway tracks listening to music.
He was also wearing a balaclava which prevented his hearing the fast-approaching Kannur-Bangalore Express. The train hit him and he died on the spot, the Yeshwanthpur Railway Police said.

Vyasarajan, a native of Chennai, was staying with his son, Prasanna, a software engineer, after his retirement. He used to go to J.P. Park near Mathikere for his morning walk every day.
Earlier, he used carry a pocket radio with him but switched over to the iPod a few months ago, the police said, quoting relatives. A case of unnatural death has been filed.
Vyasarajan's death comes less than six weeks after Railway Police found the body of 35-year-old Anitha Symmes near the Marathahalli railway bridge, apparently run over by a train while listening to music.
