BENGALURU: Faced with complaints from residents over the long delay in completion of road work, Mayor G. Padmavathi and other Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials inspected road work in Basaveshwaranagar taken up under TenderSURE and the grade separator being constructed at Karnataka Housing Board - Basaweshwaranagar Main Road junction.

Work on the grade separator has been delayed by a year and the BBMP had given a notice seeking information from the contractor on the cause of delay. "The contractor had got back saying that the work had struck two large rocks and blasting was not possible as the underpass was close to residential areas. However this hurdle has been cleared, and the contractors have said the underpass will be handed over to the BBMP by March-end," said Ms. Padmavathi. Work on the underpass had started in April 2015 at a cost of Rs 24 crore.

BBMP officials also inspected TenderSURE work on MC Modi Hospital Road and Siddaiahpuranik road in Basaveshwaranagar. The 10-crore project on a 1.2 km stretch of Modi Hospital Road is expected to be completed by February end, and no trees have been cut for the project, the Mayor said. She expressed displeasure over the slow pace of work on Siddaiahpuranik Road and directed officials to finish the project at the earliest.
