I-T department sets up special counters to file tax returns

Since the last date for filing income tax returns of salaried employees and pensioners is July 31, the Income Tax Department is setting up special counters at Gayathri Vihar, Palace Grounds, here, from July 29 to 31. These counters will remain open between 9.30 a.m. and 5.30 p.m. on all the three days. During this period, the income tax returns of salaried assesses and pensioners will not be received in HMT Bhavan. According to a release from the Income Tax Department, around 80 special counters will be set up to receive the I-T returns. Arrangements will be made to receive bulk returns separately.

e-Filing intermediaries will be available to the taxpayers at the venue as assesses with total income exceeding Rs.5 lakh, and those claiming refund even if the total income is below Rs.5 lakh, are required to file their returns electronically.

In addition, the special counters will contain facilities like ATMs, swipe machines and bank extension counter to facilitate instantaneous payment of taxes, Tax Return Preparers (TRPs) to assist the assesses, PAN Service (NSDL) counters, and medical support unit. Sufficient number of help desks, including separate help desk for senior citizens and differently-abled persons, as well as volunteers will be available at the venue to help the taxpayers, stated the release.
