The former Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) councillor Govindaraju was injured after a gang of three armed men attacked him with sharp weapons in Malleswaram on Monday.

Mr. Govindaraju is a Congress leader and had served as chairman of the Tax and Finance Committee of the BBMP. The incident occurred around 8 a.m. and he is recovering in a private hospital.

Till now no arrest had been made but the police are conducting investigations, the officer added.

The police are also suspecting old enmity and money transaction to be the reason for the attack.
