For many II PU students, who are already facing testing times due to paper leakages and confusion around the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), the delay in announcing the schedule for the second round of counselling for professional courses is only making matters worse.
The counselling schedule has been delayed by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) as the State government is yet to negotiate with minority medical colleges and deemed varsities to give their government quota seats.
A parent of an engineering seat aspirant said many students were confused as COMEDK had announced that the last date to surrender seats is July 15. “We are worried as many medical seat aspirants are likely to have blocked engineering seats under CET due to the confusion around NEET. Moreover, since we have to surrender COMEDK seats quickly, we are confused as these seats are more expensive,” the parent said.

Sources in KEA said they were waiting for the medical education department to give around 400 seats in minority colleges and deemed varsities. The Karnataka Religious Linguistic Minority Professional Colleges’ Association, however, stated that they are waiting for the government to call them for a discussion on the issue.
