Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama favoured a “wait and watch” policy for the new leadership in China. Asked whether the change in leadership there would translate to a change in attitude towards Tibet, he said: “It is too early to tell anything at the moment.”
Speaking to reporters after delivering the Science and Religion Endowment lecture organised by the Dharmaram Vidya Kshetra at the Christ University here on Monday, the Dalai Lama, however, said that the new leadership is younger and appears to more open-minded. “One or two individuals cannot do much. The system is like that. It is better to wait for six months or a year,” he added.
Asked to send out a peace message on the fourth anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, he said: “This is the result of hatred; it is just the opposite of compassion. Hatred is meant to hurt and defeat; that is the source of the problem. It is related with a self-centred attitude; it is foolish and selfish.”
